Genre Characteristics

The song we are using for our music video falls under the genre of Electro-Pop/House music. Calvin Harris is well-known for his use of both of these genres so it is easy to notice characteristics within all of his music. All of his songs contain a drop in the music which helps us to understand that his music is generally for the use of a party/club environment.

Electro-pop is a genre of music in which the synthesizer is the dominant musical instrument. A synthesizer is an electronic instrument that is able to produce sounds by generating electrical signals of different frequencies. It was prefigured in the 1960's and early 1970's by the use of the synthesizer in progressive rock, electronic art rock and disco. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post punk era as part of the New Wave movement.

There is also elements of House music in our song. House music is a style of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago in the early 1980's. It was initially popularized in discotheques catering to the African-American, Latino and gay communities.
