5. Do you like our choice of locations for our music video?

6. Do you think we should change the location?

7. What costumes do you think will be most appropriate?

8. Do you think the visuals fit the lyrics in the song?

9. Do you think the clubs scenes will fit into the video?

10. Do you have anymore suggestions or ideas for our video?

This is our questionnaire that we gave out to the class. I have read through all the questionnaires and taken what they have said into consideration. Also thought about the ideas they have given us to see if they could work. Altogether we gave out 11 questionnaires and I am going to quantify them.

Week Six Meeting

As we are missing two members of our group Freya and Ashlee, me and the other group member Chloe have had to work extra hard to keep on track and make sure we are getting everything completed. We have mainly been working on some editing exercises. These include the Pink Panther Exercise and Tom Jones. They give us some experience in working with the editing application Final cut, for when we come to edit our actual music video. I (Jessica Staplehurst) have also uploaded some practice shots that we are thinking of using.

iPod Idea Explained

This is an explanation of an idea we would like to use in our video.  We found it when we were looking at videos to do with marriage (because this was of of our first ideas). As you can see above this is a funny effect in which the females face is shown on the i-Pad but the male's body is shown below it. We have done some test shots of this idea. It is another way of showing the unity of people and highlights the general idea of feeling and being close to someone.

Practice Ideas for Music Video

Here are our practice shots of the 'i-Pad idea'. We used the same effect but on our i-Pods. As you can see it looks as if the bodies and faces of the girls have switched places. We have done this by recording the top half of their bodies on an iPod singing and then when we play that video in front of a video camera we got this effect. We thought we could use this in our video but obviously we would use something bigger than an iPod for example an iPad which is bigger and it will make it look more effective.

We used the same sort of idea with the above video. As you can see one of us is behind the i-Pod making the same sort of facial expressions as is on the screen so the effect is made that you can see their mouth through the i-Pod, but in actual fact it is someone else's mouth. One of our main ideas has been to use the idea of close up shots of lips (with diamonds or colours on the lips), but we felt this is a more interesting way of doing so. We really like this effect and we want to use this in our music video.

Costume ideas and shot ideas

Whilst watching some videos by Beyonce I found some shots and costumes that might be good to use for our video.

The image below shows her glittery skin which is another idea we would like to use in our video.
^ This image is similar to our idea of using lips
This first image is obviously a close up of the artists lips whilst she is singing, which is an idea we previously had and the sparkle on her skin which is shown on the below image is an idea I would like to use as well.

There is a lyric in our song which is about 'surrounds me like a waterfall', we have some other ideas for this lyric but the above costume moves like water when wind is blown on it. Also the movement of the costume surrounds her so I feel this could be a very good way of linking the lyrics with the visuals.

I think this a very good costume to use for our video as it holds connotations of passion and holds a sexual element which links to our song as it is all about feeling close to someone in a certain moment. Also the background is red so that also connotates passion and love.

I feel the above reflection image is a powerful image and I would like to incorporate it into our video. The idea of reflection links to a variety of different things, firstly it links to the idea of water as you can see your reflection in water which is an idea that we are using throughout. Also it incorporates the idea of reflecting back on things that have happened, which could mean relationships which also links into our video.

Experimenting with stop motion

We want to use stop motion in our music video so i figured it would be a good idea to practice it and see how it comes out. I used the word waterfall and spelt it out by using letters on a key board. So I took pictures of every letter on the key board. I then uploaded the pictures onto Final cut. Then i added the music and cut out the part of the song I needed. After this i used markers to cut to the beat of the music. Fortunately there was 8 markers that I placed and 9 letters so it worked perfectly. So I then put every letter in place in time with the music and this is what I got.

Genre Characteristics

The song we are using for our music video falls under the genre of Electro-Pop/House music. Calvin Harris is well-known for his use of both of these genres so it is easy to notice characteristics within all of his music. All of his songs contain a drop in the music which helps us to understand that his music is generally for the use of a party/club environment.

Electro-pop is a genre of music in which the synthesizer is the dominant musical instrument. A synthesizer is an electronic instrument that is able to produce sounds by generating electrical signals of different frequencies. It was prefigured in the 1960's and early 1970's by the use of the synthesizer in progressive rock, electronic art rock and disco. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post punk era as part of the New Wave movement.

There is also elements of House music in our song. House music is a style of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago in the early 1980's. It was initially popularized in discotheques catering to the African-American, Latino and gay communities.

Skills Development Exercise with Markers for Editing

For this exercise we had to work on the programme Final Cut. Firstly we had to import our music so we could later drag the music onto the timeline so we would have a base to work on. We then created a folder on the desktop called 'Pink Panther Exercise' which would hold all of the images we would be using on our video. We then browsed to find all the images which we took on the Mac's photo booth programme of our group. After this we dragged our music onto the timeline, and clicked on show audio waveform so it was easier for us to see the beats of the music we would be working with. Now we were ready to starting marking our music.

We played the song and used the keyboard command of 'M' to mark the beats of the music so we could place our images on the markers to create the effect of the music being perfectly correlated with the visuals. We learnt to drag the pictures to move, extend or shorten them.

Above is our finished result. This will help us in creating our actual music video and will make the process much quicker and easier.

Music Video Analysis- 'Louder'- DJ Fresh ft. Sian Evans

The music video I will be analysing is for the song 'Louder'- by DJ Fresh ft. Sian Evans. DJ Fresh is an English DJ who is also one of the Principals of the drum and bass group Bad Company. The song is within the genre of dubstep and reached number one in the UK Singles Charts. DJ Fresh was the founder of BC Recordings and Breakbeat Punk. The song I am editing is being used as part of a Lucozade Lite advertising campaign the UK and Ireland. The video is conceptual and holds minor elements of narrative. I will be analysing the video using Goodwin's Six Point Analysis. Below are his points:

  • Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics (e.g. stage performance in metal video, dance routine for boy/girl band).

  • There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).

  • There is a relationship between music and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).

  • The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style).

  • There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.

  • There is often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc).

  • In terms of lyrics and visuals, there is not a strong connection. The audience are shown people on rollerblades and skateboards riding around the streets, whilst the lyrics are 'it's gonna get louder'. Also when the beat drops, you would expect the visuals to be made up of quick cuts and fast paced images, however in the video the director, Ben Newman, decided to show the effect of slow motion. This was probably a way of in a way confusing the audience as what happens is unexpected, also he is going against the typical generics of this type of video.

There is a mild element of the audience having to view the video from a hetrosexual male's point of view. This point is from Laura Mulvey's theory of the 'Male Gaze'. She believes that in the majority of music videos women are shown as objects, and the only point of view the audience are shown, is from a male. This doesn't apply for the whole of this music video, however there are certain aspects, for example like the image above. We are shown the thighs and backsides of females whilst men gaze on from the background. Also the use of rollerblades highlights the objectivity of the females, as the rollerblades holds references to bars like Hooters in which the females wear revealing outfits and serve their customers on rollerblades. This is a perfect example of Goodwin's point of intertextuality as there are references to another source.
This is a perfect example of the male gaze as the females are being looked up and down to obviously show off their bodies.

The video contradicts certain components of Andrew Goodwins book on the analysis of video, such as how the demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artists. In this particular video the artists are not shown once and there are just dancers and actors in the shots. This is because the song is created by a DJ and the singer is not that well known so it is not necessary for them to be shown in the video. Despite this there are elements of the six points that are used in the video like the voyeuristic treatment of females which I have previous mentioned and the genre characteristic are in some ways similar like the groups of people coming together and having a good time which is also in the video that we are editing for our final piece.

When the beat drops the group of males enter into the shot. This illustrates stature, how the males have power and presence, maybe even more so than the females. This is also illustrated through the way there is a large group of males however there is only two females. They dominate through both quantity and the way in which they move. The boys dark costumes and plain costumes contrast with the females bright costumes and excited facial expressions which help to add to the excitement and summery beat of the song.

There is a lot of shots in the video that involve big groups of people. The song is based in the genre of dubstep which is all about people coming together at clubs and various other functions so the director, Ben Newman, has clearly tried to bring this element into the video. The video was brought out May 23, 2011 and was brought out for the younger generation with it's fast paced beats and is about partying which is the audience that we will be aiming for with our personal music video.

    Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris' real name is Daniel Harland and was born on 17th January 1984. Calvin Harris is originally from Scotland and is a singer-songwriter, record producer and DJ. Calvin Harris was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demo's by 1999. His earliest success was 21; his songs 'Da Bongos' and 'Brighter Days' were released as a 12" club single and CD-EP by the Prima Facie label in early 2002 under the name Stouffer. Harris signed contracts with EMI (publishing) and Sony BMG (recording) in 2006, after his music had been discovered on the social networking website Myspace. Harris had recently moved back from London to his hometown of Dumfries because he was unable to find a job.

Harris' first album I Created Disco was released on 29 June 2007. The album contained uptempo electroclash songs that were influenced by music from the 1980s. To promote I Created Disco, Harris embarked on a tour of the UK, supporting Faithless and Groove Armada. In 2008 he collaborated with rapper Dizzee Rascal on his song "Dance Wiv Me". They performed an acoustic version for the BBC as part of the Glastonbury Festival 2008 coverage. The song was released digitally on 30 June 2008 and went straight to number 1 in the UK. On 18 October 2008 he was also featured on Radio 1's Essential Mix with a 2 hour set. In 2009 he produced Dizzee Rascal's next single entitled "Holiday". He was supposed to make an appearance in its music video, but objected to dancing along in some scenes, wearing a certain shirt for the video and not wearing his "fly eye" glasses.

Recently, In 2011, he toured with Rihanna in Australia, and released a collaboration with her, "We found love".On 2 April 2011, Harris confirmed via Twitter that he was recording a video for his single "Bounce", in Las Vegas and that it would feature Kelis. On 29 April, BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac played a world exclusive premiere of the track, commenting that the single had the potential to be a "summer smash". It debuted in the UK Singles Chart on 19 June 2011 and was second to Example's "Changed The Way You Kissed Me". Another single, "Feel So Close", was released on 21 August 2011. Harris provided vocals and remixers included Nero, Dillon Francis and Benny Benassi. Harris also featured on LMFAO's album Sorry For Party Rocking, appearing on "Reminds Me of You". Harris has been confirmed as one of the headline acts at acclaimed New Zealand new year festival Rhythm and Vines for the 2011/2012 festival.

As well as a singer songwriter, Calvin Harris also works as a producer. With his earliest professional production being for Australian pop icon, Kylie Minogue on her X (2007), most notably the single release, "In My Arms", which peaked within the top ten of the UK Singles Chart. Harris returned again to work with Minogue on her album Aphrodite (2010), co-producing the track "Too Much". Harris turned down the opportunity to work with American singer Lady Gaga. Harris said: "When Lady Gaga first came out, her name rang a bell, so I checked my emails - and it turns out that on 1 January 2008, I got an email asking to work with her. I thought, 'Lady Gaga, what sort of name is that?' So I replied saying, 'Nah, I’m not into that.' Fast forward a year and she’s the biggest thing. But I don’t regret turning her down as I didn’t think the song I heard then was that good." Harris has also worked with American pop/dance singer Katy Perry.

Music video analysis- Ne-yo- Miss Independent

The music video I will be analysing is Miss Independent by Ne-yo. This music video is performance based and has a narrative throughout. The genre if this music video is pop/R&B and the record label is Def Jam, produced by Stargate.

The lyrics and the visuals in the music video work well together. For example;  When ne-yo sings “She got her own thing that’s why I love her, miss independent” the camera constantly moves back and forward from ne-yo gazing at her to a close up of her face, and more importantly her working as an independent.

The lyrics are based around ne-yo liking his boss, the fact she is independent and is the only one who doesn’t chase him and that’s what makes her different. This is shown throughout the narrative of the video. As far as the relationship between music and visuals is concerned, the overall pace of the music video is slow based to show key points in the narrative such as Ne-yo’s day at work, the introduction of the boss and his interest in the boss.

    In the video, Ne-yo is presented to be a bit of a ‘lady’s man’. At the beginning of the video, when he enters the office, there are various shots of him ‘eyeing up’ the women. For example;
The video does not relate to any of his previous videos. However, he is presented similar in many of his other videos as a lady’s man. He also performs part of a dance in his video’s as he is well known as a dancer as well as a singer. In the video, Ne-yo can be seen as a representative of other men. In the video, there is the idea of ‘the chase’, and that’s what Ne-yo likes about his boss, and stereotypically, men are supposed to like the idea of having to chase a woman rather than her chasing him, and this is shown throughout the narrative of the video.

Sexual display is implied a lot throughout the video. The way the women are dressed in the video is to make them look sexy and elegant. E.g. tight skirts and low cut blouses. As far as camerawork goes, there is a male gaze shown, where the camera scans the women’s body from her feet upwards as if it was Ne-yo looking her up and down.
In the video, as well as Ne-yo dancing there are some female dancers to represent the women in the office. The women dancers are dressed in work clothes and in a way are showing that women do not need men to do the things they want to do, they can do it independently.

Overall, the women in the video are represented as sexy, independent women.

    Music Video Analyse

I am going to be analysing the music video Won’t Go Quietly by Example using Andrew Goodwin’s six point analyse. The music video is directed by Elliot Gleave and Alex Smith.
The reason that I have chosen this music video to analyse is mainly because it fits to the same genre as the music video I am going to be producing. Won’t Go quietly is Dance-pop track, and the track I am using ‘Close To You’ by Calvin Harris also has a genre of dance-pop. You can immediately tell that ‘Won’t Go Quietly’ has this genre because as soon as the song starts were hear very upbeat music and flashing images of the singer ‘Example’ performing.
There are many characteristics that this music video has but one main one that stands out to me is dancing in a club or bar. This is very popular in most Dance-pop tracks as this is what you expect from the style of music. Also other characteristics like very heavy beat, people having a good time and flashing lights all having a very similar affect and this is what I will include into my music video.
There is a clear relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. The Male Gaze by is included in this music video. We see a women walking into the club and then we follow her throughout the music video through the club. It is a point of view shot of how the other people in the club will look at her. For example the male gaze is about how men look at women and how women look at their self.  So men are most likely to look a good looking woman up and down in an attraction type of way.

In the lyrics we understand clearly that Example is singing about the woman that we are shown. “She's electric, she's the current running through my veins” This lyric relates to the visuals as we are shown the woman when this lyric is being sung. Also this lyric “Danced with the she devil in the pale moonlight” has a strong relationship with the visuals as we then see everyone dancing in a club when this lyric is being sung. This makes the music video very predictable because the lyrics of the song basically tell you what you are going to see.

The relationship between the music and the visuals are distinct. For example at the start of the video there is instrumental part and we are shown the singer in a number of different screens. This illustrates to the audience that he is the main singer of the video as this is how he is introduced. Also at this point of the song the lights are flashing from one screen to the next and this is in time with the beat of the music.
This is not the case throughout the song though because the cuts aren’t to the beat. Because the video is packed with different things to look at we are still attracted to what’s going on. Usually I think having the cuts to the beat makes the video more interesting but in this case it doesn’t as we are already interested in what’s going on.
The quicker the music gets the quicker the video gets for example more people are jumping and dancing and the cuts get a lot quicker than they are when the music is at a slower pace.
There are many close-ups of the artist because he is the main star of the music video. This is how the record company is looking to sell this track because if you like Example then you are most likely going to watch the video and buy the track. The image of the artist that is being offered is a wacky pop star that looks like he loves a good time. We also get the impression that he loves to gaze a women and see himself as a ladies man. This is because the name of the song ‘Won’t Go Quietly’ states that this woman that has eyes on him will not leave without a thrill.
The previous video by this artist are very similar. This is also because the music that he produces all have the same tempo and beat and there are only a couple of ways to make a music video with these sorts of songs. For example in his video ‘Changed The Way You Kissed Me’ we are also shown a club seen we people dancing an bouncing around. The videos are very similar in this way.

‘Changed The Way You Kissed Me’

    ‘Won’t Go Quietly’

This video you could say implies a sexual display as the camera angle is mostly low angle looking up to the woman’s faces. Also because their outfits are so minimal and their boobs or bums are on display this could also show a sexual display to the audience. The beginning of the video we see a screen showing the artist this is reference to the notion of looking because this is where we would usually see the artist on our television screen. So this emphasise this even more.
This music video is mostly performance based but also has a narrative. The narrative is the idea of this women walking in the club and example can’t take his eyes of her but he knows it’s going to end badly. But in between these quick shots we see example on a stage like he is at a gig with his band performing to the song.

    Week Five Meeting

This week we have been concentrating on getting our powerpoint ready for Wednesday's presentation. As we have not been sure what to included in our powerpoint we have to make a few adjustments before we showed our pitch to the audience. We also uploaded some test shots and a test video along with our powerpoint to show what a few of our basic ideas are. We have also been researching what Music Channels our video would be shown on and found out what record labels would produce our kind of music.

    Wednesday, 12 October 2011

    Viewing

If our music video was to be shown nationally, it is most likely to be shown on MTV Dance, MTV Hits, Kiss, Viva and Smash hits. We researched the viewing figures for each of these channels:

MTV Dance- Daily- 109,000, Weekly- 548,000
    MTV Hits- Daily-300,000, Weekly- 1,518, 000
    Kiss-Daily- 194,000, Weekly- 929,000
    Viva-Daily- 975,000, Weekly- 4,173,000
    Smash hits- Daily-161,000, Weekly- 868,000

We also looked at some music channels that is not as likely to play our music video and they were:
Flava- this music channel relates more to r&b type music
MTV Classic- is for more of an older generation
Kerrang- is more of a rock music channel

    Record Labels-
If our music video was to be recorded, possible record labels include:
    -Fly Eye
    -Columbia
    -Ministry of sound
    -Armada music
    -Tiger records
The reason for our choice of record Lable is that these record labels have signed various famous artists such as Calvin Harris, Benny Benassi and Deadmau5.

    Music Video Analysis

I am analysing a video called This City by Patrick Stump. It also features Lupe Fiasco who is a famous rap artist. The genre of this music video is pop/rap. This is because Lupe makes the song reach out to a wider audience by collaborating with Patrick Stump who is more of a pop singer. This video is all about the town Chicago where Patrick Stump was raised so there is a very strong narrative behind this video. As you can tell from the lyrics also ‘This City’ as in Chicago. So throughout the video we are taken back into the 80’s when they wore leather jackets to show of this wonderful city. The 80’s theme is also shown through the use of black and white colour.

The lyrics of the song and the visuals of the music video have a clear relationship. We see flash backs almost of all the good things that have happened to him since living in this city. The lyrics ‘I was born and raised here’ proves this point even more. We then see him looking over at kids playing in this street. This maybe what he used to do when he was a kid playing in the city. Also another lyric that is repeated a lot throughout the song and has a relationship with the visuals is ‘and I love it, yeah I love it’. This tells the watchers that Patrick Stump is very passionate about his city as he calls it and he’s trying to get that point across to others. ‘And my city was a threat to the rest’ this lyric has a very strong meaning that no other city can compare to Chicago. But because not everyone has been there these lyrics are just opinions of the singer. ‘Forget all the drugs and gang corruption and pollution’ a perfect city is hard to find and the message that he is trying to get across is that if you look past these thing for example drugs, gangs and pollution you will love you city as much as Patrick loves Chicago.
This music video doesn’t have a strong relationship between the music and the visuals. This is because the video doesn’t always cut to the beat which usually happens in most music videos. There is one section at the end where he claps his hands and the shot changes. This looks very effective also because it looks like the lights are turning on and off.
At the beginning there is also a bit when Patrick stamps his foot on the beat then all of a sudden the scene has changed from Patrick singing to him being in the city with black and white colour. It draws my attention because we wasn’t expecting to actually see what he was singing about ‘This city’.
The solo instrumental bits where Patrick Stump is singing to the music are very edited with lots of different colours and effects. At one point we can hardly see Patrick because there are so many colours going on. But I think this makes the music video looking interesting and different.

The music in this video doesn’t really change pace except when Lupe starts to rap. Here we then see a change because the cuts are more quicker and to the beat. Having the video cut to the beat of the music I think makes the whole video more thrilling and exciting as we don’t know what it’s going to cut to next.
Throughout the whole video the scene we see most is Patrick Stump performing to the music with lots of different effects. I think this way it is making Patrick the main artist of the video and this is how the record company are looking to sell this track. Like most music video’s the main artist is in the video 90% of the time. There are many close ups and different shots of Patrick the whole way through because he is the star of the video. When the beat drops Patrick changes the way he performs by jumping and really getting into the song. From this video the artist looks like a smart respectable man because he wears a suit when performing when most other artists will wear casual clothes. He also wears a bow tie with a jacket over his shoulders, he is also trying to make his outfit different from just wearing a normal suit.

This video compares to his others one’s are very upbeat and fast in the pop genre, but his other videos are more slow and in the rock genre. This my be becase Lupe is collabrated with Patrick in 'This City’. There is a main motif with is the city which he keeps going back to throughout because if this place wasn’t in the video then the lyrics wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
This music video is mostly performance and narrative. The song is telling us a story about where he grew up and what he grew up with. Referring back to the city in every other shot change. Because it’s the actual artist singing he is performing the song and actting with the music. I would say it is mostly performance because that is what we see the most.

    Directors Essay

A signature style used by Williams throughout the vast majority of his videos was the Fisheye lens which distorted the camera view around the central focus. However, it was dropped by 2003, when he experienced his lowest level of production activity since the beginning of his career as a music video director. Since 2003, Williams has adopted a signature style combining a centre camera focus on the artist or actor's body from the torso upward and a solid colour background with a soft different-colour light being shown in the centre of the background, so as to give a sense of illumination of the background by the foreground subject. This has been displayed in "Gold Digger" by Kanye West.

n Gold Digger by Kanye west, Kanye Is the antagonist to relaying the story of ‘somebody payin’ child support for one of his kids. The gradual generalization of the experience of dating a gold digger is thus enacted over the course of the song, from the speaker’s story to a third party to the audience collectively. Kanye takes a break at the end of each chorus to address the girl: “get down girl go head get down (I gotta leave)” At the beginning of the third verse, West proceeds to advise women to see that their boyfriend is going to “make it to a Benz out of that Datsun, he got that ambition, baby, look in his eyes This week he’s mopping floors, next week it’s the fries, So, stick by his side, I know his dude’s ballin’ but yeah, that’s nice And they keep callin’ and tryin’, But you stay right, girl But when you get on he leave your ass for a white girl.”

The implication of this directive to women not to assess their partners’ potential to provide for them – the social capital that men are taught is valuable in making them attractive to partners- is coupled with a cruel reminder of the white standard of beauty which dictates the social capital possessed by each woman. This final surprise ‘turn’ effectively rejects all black women so that even those women who might previously have been able to join in the speaker’s condemnation of women who abuse their partners for money are excluded. The lack of hip-hop directed at women is interesting, considering the amount of women who listen to it.

Throughout the video, the artists are being represented as rich in the way they express in their lyrics that women are out to get their money. The video does not relate to previous videos and does not carry on any previous motifs. Although, most of Hype William’s music videos are Big Budget ‘black’ music videos, where the artists and actors are mainly of black origin. The video consists mostly of close ups of the two artists to show that they are important in the music video. The video is constantly changing from close-ups of the artists to full body shots of the half-naked women being represented in the video.

Women are on sexual display throughout the whole of this music video. Firstly, the costumes they are wearing show a lot of their body as they are dressed in mostly bikinis and underwear. The male gaze is also used throughout the video as a representation of how men see women. Through this gaze, women are represented as sexual objects which is demonstrated through the costumes as well the sexual innuendo of a pearl necklace. As part of the male gaze, there are various close-ups of women’s breasts and buttocks, to enhance their sexual fantasy. The women in the video are all set out on the front of magazine covers which represents them as being objects to look at for men. But also, from a woman’s point of view, that every woman should look like the women on magazine covers, stereotypically having enlarged breasts, thin, toned waists and long, slender legs. Also, the names of the magazines shown such as ‘Fantasy’, ‘fresh hot’ and hot fun’ represents a males imagination to run wild.  The cost of each magazine shown is 50 cents, which represents that it does not cost Kanye a lot to look and idolise the women on the magazine covers. It’s almost as if, if he did not have the fantasy and had the real thing, it would cost him a lot more. Finally, the constant flash from male to women represents what the artists are imagining in their heads. They are imagining how women on covers should look and to look like that, it must cost money, therefore, her being, in their eyes, a gold digger.  The fantasy is cheaper than the real thing.

The music video is based on the original song, blues of Ray Charles’ “I Got A Woman” in the way that they sing the lyrics. Although the lyrics have changed, the overall style remains the same. The only way this video relates to Hype William’s other videos is the fact that the majority of artists are black artists and the majority represent women in a sexual way. For example, Jay-Z- Big Pimpin’ where he is on a boat full of half-naked women. He is also living in a fantasy.

Gold Digger is mostly performance-based, with a slight narrative. No conceptual elements are used throughout the video. As a director, Hype Williams has portrayed the lyrics of the song into a visual representation of how women will use their bodies to attract rich men.

    Test Shots

We went to Pacha to take some shots of people getting closer, and how clubs is the perfect setting to show how in one moment people can form bonds and sexual relationships, which is something we want to show in our video.

The above picture is just to show where we were when we took the practice images. This could be used in our video as it highlights a place where feeling close is a regular occurrence.

As you can see here two friends are about to exchange in a handshake which shows how they are coming close and their relationship is being highlighted. It also shows how this situation is a happy place and can bring people together.

As you can see in the above image there are two individuals kissing in the front of the image which again highlights how people are forming bonds and feeling close.

This is our new word cloud, we completed a variety of word clouds, however the previous ones we have completed have not been as detailed as this final one. The main reason we had to change our word cloud was because we changed our idea. Our first idea was to do with cheating and being unfaithful, but after listening to and analysing our lyrics we decided that to show the positive side of relationships would work better with our song. We wanted to include a wide range of words that were related to our idea so on our powerpoint to show what our video will be, the audience would have a very detailed idea of what to expect.
